What are your hobbies?
Janis:
Listening to music, in particular 70’s rock
Colin:
Playing guitar in my band Noose which is a punk rock band. I started playing when I was 16 and have been with Noose for over 6 years
Tan:
My greatest pleasure is hiking with my youngest son. To see his wonder when we discover new places is an absolute joy. I also try to stay fit by running 2 or 3 times a week.
Steve:
Fishing, more fishing and then more fishing! I’m also a committee member of the Long Eaton Federation Fishing Club which involves working alongside the Environment Agency and Canal & Rivers Trust. It’s not just about fishing it’s about the management of our natural habitats. It’s something that’s always been a part of my life – I started when I was 10 years old.
What is your favourite Tv show?
Janis:

Can I cheat and name a book instead? Catch 22 by Joesph Heller
Steve:
Don’t really have a favourite one. I do like comedies especially programmes like the League of Gentlemen and Inside No 9
What is your favourite film?
Janis:
Mad Max
Colin:
Highlander
Tan:
Too many to pick one!
Steve:
Carry on Screaming, followed by Jason and the Argonauts
What kind of music do you listen to?
Janis:
Pink Floyd
Colin:
Anything rock, metal, punk
Tan:
I’m a huge fan of grunge, in particular Alice in Chains, Soundgarden (well anything with Chris Cornell – he had an incredible voice) and of course, Nirvana
Steve:
Rock! One of my favourite bands is Rival Suns who I got to meet backstage at Rock City with a VIP pass which was a highlight
What is your favourite football team?
Janis:
Leicester City
Colin:
I don’t do football. I sometimes watch extreme sports.
Tan:
Nottingham Forest – COYR!
Steve:
Manchester United
Why upholstery?
Janis:
Because I wanted to eat! I started in 1988 in Riga, Latvia with a husband and wife team, then set up my own business before moving to the UK in 2008.
Colin:
I’ve always enjoyed practical things and working with my hands. I also have a keen eye and
Steve:
One week’s work experience when I was at school had a massive impact on my life when I opted to go to Art Forma in Castle Donington. I enjoyed it so much I became an apprentice there and spent 18 years honing my craft and developing high end pieces for some of the leading retailers in London
What do you like about working here?
Janis:
The people – a very friendly bunch with no ego’s. They all like rock music which is a bonus!
I also like the variation of work which is always a challenge but in a good way
Colin:
Relaxed work environment and a very happy atmosphere
Tan:
I’m very fortunate to be able to come to work every day in an environment that I absolutely love. We work with fantastic clients, creating beautiful pieces in a very positive workplace. It just doesn’t get better than earning a living by doing what you enjoy
Steve:
It’s just a great environment which means a lot. Understanding of your staff is critical and knowing that the job you produce is to the best of your ability. This is carried across the board by everyone. It just works!
