Meet the Team

The team at Designer Workshop are all time served craftsmen who between them have over 100 years experience of high end upholstery.

This means you can be rest assured that when you ask us to work with you on an upholstery project, you are in safe hands with professional upholsterers who really do know what they doing.

Steve

Master Upholsterer Steve has over 40 years experience in high end bespoke upholstery and has (amongst others) helped develop sofas and chairs for Linley of London and Habitat. As co-founder of Designer Workshop, Steve ensures the workshop is running smoothly whilst also working on the more “tricky” upholstery projects. When not at work, Steve enjoys fishing come rain or shine.

Colin

Die-hard heavy rock fan, Colin is also in a band called Noose. When not strutting his stuff on stage you’ll find him at his bench skillfully utilising his 35 years of experience to transform tired pieces into works of art. Nothing phases Colin when it comes to upholstery and he likes a challenge.

Janis

The attention to detail that Janis has is second to none. His cutting and sewing skills are impeccable and his tailor-like skills makes life for the other upholsterer's so much easier!

Tan

Does all the non-upholstery stuff! As co-founder Tan oversees the running of the business and likes nothing better than sitting with clients and helping them bring their upholstery projects to life. Outside of work, Tan loves watching his beloved Nottingham Forest at the City Ground

Samo

Having spent 24 years at Duresta (11 years previously at Fernwood), Samo joined us in May 2021 and really enjoys the variety of upholstery jobs we work on from antique furniture to making new bespoke sofas. Loves his 80’s music and is like a walking encyclopaedia on the subject!

Handcrafted by Designer Workshop

Nottingham based upholsterers, Designer Workshop opened it’s doors in January 2014. It has since built up an enviable reputation for the high quality of furniture it crafts, as well as the superlative reupholstery service it offers. Having started with a small number of high end retailers, Designer Workshop has expanded and now works with antique dealers, carrying out extensive furniture restoration – particularly to french button back chairs and sofas. More recently, the company has evolved into the Contract Market and offers a range of commercial upholstery for bars, hotels and restaurants.
